Adopt-A-Lot Program
Adopt-a-lot signs rest before their destinations are determined.

In July 2003, Mayor Eric J. Kellogg introduced the Adopt-A-Lot Program in an effort to address the maintenance of abandoned lots throughout the City of Harvey.

Businesses, elected officials, citizens, city employees, block clubs, churches and other community groups have all adopted blocks in the City.

Once an organization adopts an abandoned lot, the City provides the initial grass cutting, making it easier for the organization to beautify the newly adopted lot.

Each lot location received an attractive sign recognizing the name of the organization or person adopting the lot.

City Departments that have adopted abandonded lots include:

• The Mayor's Office
• Harvey Water Department
• Harvey Street Department
• Harvey Clerk's Office
• The Harvey Planning Department
• Harvey Police Department
• Harvey Fire Department
• All Harvey Aldermen

As an additional effort, Mayor Kellogg directed Harvey's Corporate Counsel, Betty Lewis, to identify the rightful owners of the respective lots and pursue all efforts to levy liens against the negligent property owners.

For additional information on the program or to adopt an empty lot, please call the Mayor's Office at 708-210-5300.
