The Harvey Fire Department's (HFD) core responsibilities are:
• To efficiently and effectively respond to fire and rescue incidents; be they man-made or naturally occurring • To provide services that protect and preserve the life and property of the citizens and visitors of the community and surrounding areas
The HFD accomplishes these goals through:
• Public education • Fire prevention • Fire suppression and rescue services • Acting in a courteous, dedicated and professional manner
The Harvey Fire Department consists of four fire stations at the following locations:
• Station #1 (includes administrative offices*) 15600 Center Ave. 708-331-7720
• Station #2 14651 Vincennes St. 708-333-3350
• Station #3 15248 Robey St. 708-331-3607
• Station #4 16800 Lathrop Ave. 708-596-4664
*Administrative office hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
The Harvey Fire Department consists of 57 employees in the following roles:
• 1 Public Safety Fire Administrator • 1 Deputy Chief • 2 Captains • 9 Lieutenants • 9 Engineers • 26 Firefighters (full time) • 7 Paid-on-Call Firefighters (P.O.C.’s) • 2 Secretaries
The HFD provides the following services:
Fire Suppression/Fire Prevention Education The department offers fire prevention education services for special events, such as safety fairs, health fairs, station tours, parades, presentations for schools, churches, or community organizations.
Inspectional Services Home and business inspections are available, though limited to fire safety, such as escape plans, proper exits, certificate of occupancy, extinguishers and smoke detectors.
Bomb & Arson Unit The department investigates fire cause and origin and deals with prosecutions of responsible parties.
Haz-Mat Team This team provides assistance to the community in any incident relative to hazardous materials incidents, such as chemical spills and gas leaks.
Photo Unit Video & photography services are provide by the department, covering all citywide departments, schools and community centers throughout the City of Harvey.
CPR Training CPR training is available to all interested City of Harvey businesses and residents. Please call Station #1 at 708-331-7720 for details.
Car Seat Safety Inspection Proper car seat installation inspections can be provided. Please call Station #1 at 708-331-7720 for details.
Fire Reports Business owners and residents with property affected by a fire can receive copies of the fire report from the HFD for a nominal fee. Please call Station #1 at 708-331-7720 for details.
