Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) allows individuals to request access to public records, except to the extent records are claimed as exempt from disclosure under one or more exemptions of the FOIA. The City of Harvey has an appointed Chief FOIA Officer to respond to all requests for access to eligible public records.

What We Do
The Chief FOIA Officer handles all FOIA and Privacy Act issues and requests. The City of Harvey respects the right of the public to access information, but it also aims to protect privileged information. When a request is received by the FOIA Officer, the appropriate Department is asked to search their records for materials covered by the request. When requested records are found, the documents are typically forwarded to the FOIA Officer for review and response. A response will also be provided if no records are found.

Pursuant to 5 ILCS 140/6, FOIA allows the City to recover costs associated with the processing of certain FOIA requests. Unless you state otherwise, we assume that you are aware of all fees that will be incurred in the processing of your request.

Information and Instructions on How to Request Documents
To access the City of Harvey FOIA form, please go to the Harvey City Clerk’s website at and click on the Freedom of Information link under Services.

To request information, we prefer you use the form provided in the Forms section of the website. Your request should be submitted to:

FOIA Officer
Cheryl Anderson, Deputy City Clerk
City of Harvey
15320 Broadway
Harvey, IL 60426
Fax: (708) 210-5358

Please be as specific as possible in your description of records being requested, and clearly indicate if you want to inspect or receive copies of the requested records. The Freedom of Information Act is designed to allow you to inspect or receive copies of records, and not to require a public body to answer questions. If you have questions, we encourage you to call City Hall at 708.210.5301 so that we can direct you to the proper person.

In accordance with FOIA, there is no fee for the first 50 pages of black and white copies on standard sized paper. A fee of $.15 will be assessed for all standard black and white copies for pages 51 and above. For color copies, and copies that are non-standard in size, a fee that represents the actual reproduction cost will be assessed.

*Note: FOIA requests will be processed in accordance with Public Act 96-0542.
